Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What thickness and width of hot melt film should I use for computer embroidery backing?
A: This LDPE trick film is 0.07 mm thick and is supplied in 30 cm, 100 cm or 160 cm widths (custom widths available). Thinner film suits fine logos and small lettering; heavier coverage such as sequin or lace panels needs a wider roll to avoid overlaps.
Q2: Why use a hot melt film instead of embroidery backing paper?
A: The film does not shrink and leaves no fibrous residue after the hoop is removed, so the embroidery face stays flat and colours do not fade. It also eliminates the tearing step that can distort small stitches in backing paper.
Q3: How is the film applied, and what temperature does it need?
A: The LDPE film is tacked to the fabric with a light iron or heat press so it holds during embroidery, then fully bonded afterwards. Because LDPE flows at low temperature, start around 110-130 °C and confirm with a scrap test before production.
Q4: Is the red colour safe for white and light-coloured garments?
A: Red film is normally specified for dark shells, hats and bags where the film is not visible. For light and white fabrics we recommend the transparent or white version of the same EMF-0071 film to avoid colour show-through.
